Quebec Selected Skilled Workers

The province of Quebec has established its own immigration selection program and has different criteria and method of assessment for Skilled Workers than the rest of country. Those who are educated, competent, have skills that are in demand, can gel well into a new environment and have the ability to make immediate economic contribution to the state of Quebec can apply for Canadian permanent residency through Quebec Selected Skilled Workers Program.

This program has simple and straight forward method of selection. An applicant, who wishes to stay in Canada as a Quebec-selected skilled worker, needs to apply for Quebec Selection Certificate. It is an official document which is a proof that the provincial Government of Quebec has allowed you to permanently immigrate to their province.

To qualify under Quebec Skilled Workers Program the applicants have to score certain points on the criteria mentioned below. A single, non married applicant must score minimum 50 points while married couples or those with common-law or conjugal partner must score minimum 57 points. The interviewing authority has the capacity to award 8 points based on your knowledge about the country and the adaptability. With this addition, a single applicant must score at least 59 points. An applicant with a spouse or conjugal partner/ common-law should score a minimum of 68 points.

  • Training and Education: Up to 29 points - Those who have done full time schooling and have professional qualification and or masters' degree are more likely to get good score.
  • Experience: Up to 9 points - Relevant experience is necessary.
  • Validated Employment offer in the province of Quebec: Up to 10 points - this is the most important criterion. Applications that do not score at least 8 points here are refused automatically.
  • Language Proficiency: Up to 22 points - An applicant is expected to have proficiency in either French or English.
  • Age: Up to 18 points - Those within the age bracket of 18-35 years are likely to get maximum points. Points decrease as the age increases.
  • Family in Quebec: Up to 9 points - An applicant who already has family members residing in the state will get priority over those who have none.
  • Children: Up to 8 points - People having children who are capable of studying well and becoming an independent salary earner get preference.
  • Spouse's Characteristics: Up to 18 points - The spouse of applicant is judged on the same criteria of age, education, training and experience and a maximum of 18 points can be awarded for this.
  • Financial Self-Sufficiency: 1 point (Cutoff Score = 1)

Note that Quebec Skilled Workers and Professionals are not at all assessed on the selection factors set by Federal Skilled Worker Program.
